Secondary — independence in everything!

In our Secondary department we follow a Guided Curriculum which is adapted around the individual pupil’s needs. The key focus is around EHCP outcomes and how we can achieve these through the school curriculum.

A guided curriculum, shaped around every pupil

Our Guided Curriculum is adapted around each individual pupil’s needs, with EHCP outcomes at its heart. Lessons are differentiated and designed to develop pupils’ ability to reflect, evaluate, work independently, be creative, work collaboratively and participate to the best of their ability.

KEY STAGE 3

Key Stage 3

All learners follow an adapted KS3 National Curriculum that blends structured whole-class and small-group teaching with practical, investigative and problem-solving approaches to learning. Teaching and support are carefully tailored to individual needs through appropriate scaffolding, enrichment and enhancement opportunities, and targeted one-to-one interventions where necessary. This personalised provision enables learners to make meaningful progress towards their EHCP outcomes and individual learning targets, while promoting, confidence and sustained engagement in learning.

Learners are expected to become more independent in their learning and are encouraged to join in and engage in lessons for increasing amounts of time. Learners can expect to learn about topics such as Natural Disasters and Forces, and read stories such as The Wizard of Oz and Jungle Book.

Swimming & Hydrotherapy

In KS3 our pupils have the opportunity to either access our school’s hydro pool or attend swimming sessions at Longwell Green Leisure Centre.

Lead Inclusion School

Warmley Park is the hub leader for Mencap’s All Move in the West of England, creating more opportunities for inclusive physical activities.

KEY STAGE 4

Key Stage 4 Curriculum

All learners follow an adapted KS4 National Curriculum that blends structured whole-class and small-group teaching with practical, investigative and problem-solving approaches to learning. Teaching and support are carefully tailored to individual needs through appropriate scaffolding, enrichment and enhancement opportunities, and targeted one-to-one interventions where necessary. This personalised provision enables learners to make meaningful progress towards their EHCP outcomes and individual learning targets, while promoting independence, confidence and sustained engagement in learning.

Learners are encouraged to be courageous and take ownership of their learning and can expect to learn about topics such as Rainforests and Staying Safe. They will also be given the opportunity read and connect with texts such as Paddington and Charlotte’s Web.

Accredited Pathway

ASDAN Transition Challenge (accredited): an activity based curriculum that also develops skills for adult living.
